The Network's Home Safe Home Initiative

The Network launches the Home Safe Home initiative to assist survivors of domestic abuse amidst COVID-19 pandemic.

We would like to take a moment to tell you about a new program The Network has launched as a direct result of COVID-19. It's called the Home Safe Home Initiative. We were compelled to do this when we learned that one of our rapid re-housing families had been eating their meals on the floor of their new apartment because they had no furniture. Since most of the usual outside resources have suspended operations, we began a furniture-matching effort on social media and started a food and necessities pantry.

The Home Safe Home Initiative helps cover utilities costs for families, including internet services so children can do remote learning, items for a food and necessities pantry and costs for new bed mattresses, to name a few.

Our community clients, already undergoing immense stress as they recover from an abusive relationship, are the most adversely affected by COVID-19. They are not working and no longer have childcare, so they are desperate for housing and financial assistance, food, and childcare. As a consequence, we are experiencing an influx of clients that require help applying for SNAP, cash assistance, and unemployment as well as clients that need temporary assistance with rent and bills.

If there is one positive to take away from this pandemic, it's the amazing outpouring of generosity that has been shown by so many. The motto that "We are all in this together" has proven over and over to be true, whether it's restaurants donating food to healthcare workers, teacher caravans to show their students they haven't been forgotten, automobile companies haulting regular operations to make ventilators, or to you coming through for survivors of domestic abuse.
