ENFIELD, CT — Despite cancellation of the annual Puppy Pride Day due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Enfield Dog Park still received a boost from one of that event's major draws: election of a new dog park mayor and deputy mayor.

Election to office is simply accomplished by being the top two fundraising pooches among the candidates, and this year's top collector, who will become the next mayor, is Zeke with $509.37. Zeke is owned by Anna Dombroski.

Deputy mayor honors go to Binx, owned by Meagan Pugliese and Paul Bregonzio, who collected $308. The total collected by the six candidates was just over $1,100, which goes toward operations of the all-volunteer park on Ecology Dr.

"I'd like to thank all of the candidates and everyone who voted this year," dog park president Karen Pugliese said. "We were able to raise just over $1,100 for the park, and it is truly appreciated."

Zeke and Binx officially take over their duties as mayor and deputy mayor Tuesday, but their inauguration will be delayed, as the park has been closed since sustaining heavy damage in an Aug. 4 storm.

"Their inauguration will unfortunately have to wait until we reopen the park," Pugliese said.
