Hundreds of musicians and spectators gathered Sunday to celebrate 45 years of great instrumental music at Fermi High School.
ENFIELD, CT - A joyous gathering of Fermi High School musicians spanning the school's 45-year history produced a dynamic yet sentimental farewell show Sunday afternoon.
Musicians past and present, some from as far away as California and Texas, assembled Saturday for one day of rehearsal, but seemed to pick up right where they had left off as many as 40 years ago. Performers nearing age 60 played alongside some of the current students, and several parent/child combinations were on stage together, many for the first time.
The culmination of nearly a year of planning saw the presence of original Fermi band director John Mariano in the audience, and current director Mark Reppucci conducting the 2015-16 jazz ensemble before joining the alumni jazz musicians on trumpet.
