Picture Enfield - Then And Now
An old photograph and story from Enfield's past and how that site appears today, plus a trivia question.

ENFIELD, CT — Today we return to John Zirolli's delightful book of photos and stories, entitled I Took a Little Trip to My Hometown, and a look at a bridge which no longer exists in the Thompsonville section of town.
Prospect Street used to cross Freshwater Brook until the dreaded "urban renewal" project of the mid- to late 1970s. Several hundred buildings were torn down, including the one in the background of this photo, as well as the bridge.
Following the bridge removal, Prospect Street ended at the junction of Asnuntuck Street. In the photo below, Larry Avery and his mother Florence bemoan the loss of the bridge shortly after its demolition.
