ENFIELD, CT — Today's installment of this weekly Enfield history series, courtesy of a fabulous book of renowned local photographer Ed Malley's pictures compiled by his son Jim entitled Enfield: 1950-1980, features a rare look at the construction of Interstate 91 in 1958.

This is a northbound view showing implementation of two overpasses near the Massachusetts state line. In the main part of the photo is the bridge over Route 5, or Enfield St., and in the background is the Sword Ave. overpass. The Enfield Road Construction Company (later known as Della Construction) built the portion of the highway from just north of the King St. overpass to the state line.

Here is a more contemporary look at the area, courtesy of Google Maps.

Last week's trivia answer:
Last week's trivia question was, "Only three public schools in Enfield are not named for people. They are?" The answer: Enfield High School, Enfield Street School and Hazardville Memorial School. This must have been the easiest question ever, as approximately 214,984 people got it correct; Tom Froment was first.

This week's trivia question:
The hotel in the bottom right corner of the above photo is currently called the Fairfield Inn & Suites. It originated in 1975 as the Hospitality Inn, but became best known as the Harley Hotel. Other incarnations have included the Holiday Inn, the Crowne Plaza Hotel and one other. Name the missing one. Post the answer in the comments section below, or on the Enfield Patch Facebook page, or on the You're Probably From Enfield If Facebook page, or by emailing me directly at tim.jensen@patch.com. The first person to correctly answer the question without blatantly Googling, copying and pasting the answer, as well as gives their actual name, will be acknowledged the following week.
