ENFIELD, CT — Today's installment of this weekly Enfield history series is very similar to last week's edition, courtesy of a fabulous book of renowned local photographer Ed Malley's pictures compiled by his son Jim entitled Enfield: 1950-1980. Today we check out construction of the South Rd. overpass of Interstate 91 in 1958.

At the right in the photo is undeveloped land which eventually became the Enfield Memorial Industrial Park in the early 1970s. For many years, a golf course was planned for that area, but those dreams never came to fruition.

Dairy Mart Convenience Stores Inc. relocated its headquarters to South Rd. in 1975, and built a milk processing plant which produced ice cream, frozen desserts and other dairy items for Dairy Mart outlets. Milk, orange juice and fruit drinks were also processed in the facility.

The answer: the Radisson Hotel, which operated in the early to mid-2000s. Several people had the correct answer, with Lynne Clark Baechle being first.
