ENFIELD, CT — The latest installment of this Enfield history series, courtesy of the Facebook group Picture Enfield, features Cine Enfield 1-4, which was a freestanding building on the western edge of the Enfield Mall on Hazard Avenue.

Whenever one was done shopping at Woolco, Eddie's Sporting Goods or the First National Supermarket, or the kids were done playing inside Jonathan's Arcade, a brief walk to the theater capped off the adventure with the hit movies of the day. The theater originally hosted two screens before expanding to four.

This particular photo must have been taken in 1978, when all four featured films were released. Three were big box-office hits: "Grease" with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta; "Hooper" with Burt Reynolds and Sally Field; and "Jaws 2" with Roy Scheider and Lorraine Gary. In all honesty, I never heard of "Somebody Killed Her Husband" and had to look it up. It starred Jeff Bridges and Farrah Fawcett (so you think I would have remembered it).

The theater complex was torn down during renovation of the plaza in the early 1990s. The site was approximately at the current location of Petco, shown below courtesy of Google Maps.
