SPRINGFIELD, MA — One of the busiest restaurants in southern New England, frequented by hundreds of customers daily from Massachusetts and Connecticut, will be closed for the next two weeks after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Red Rose Pizzeria, a Main Street staple since 1963 located adjacent to the MGM Casino, posted an announcement on its Facebook page Thursday morning, stating it will be closed through Nov. 5.

"Even though we have complied and even went beyond the recommendations of the CDC and Board of Health, COVID-19 has still reached us," the post from the Caputo family reads.

The restaurant had been closed for two months at the outset of the coronavirus pandemic per executive order of the governor. It reopened for takeout in May and resumed limited dining room service in late June. Considerable sanitary and social distancing precautions had been put into place prior to reopening.
