ENFIELD, CT — A segment of Brainard Road near East Forrest Dr. has been closed since late Monday night due to a fallen tree and burning wires. Eversource crews are on scene working to repair the damage.

North Thompsonville firefighers were dispatched at 10:36 p.m., and a fire burned "for about an hour before a fuse blew," fire chief Earl Provencher said. "We had an engine on scene as it started the surrounding brush on fire; Eversource arrived around 1 a.m."

Police said the roadway is expected to remain closed until around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Numerous customers in the area lost power, but just seven remained without electricity as of 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to an Eversource outage map.

Capt. Jeff Golden said police had received a few reports of trees falling onto houses due to a severe windstorm overnight, but none resulted in traffic issues other than the Brainard Rd. incident.
