Special Weather Statement Issued For Hartford/Tolland County

The National Weather Service has just issued a special weather statement for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties.

HARTFORD/TOLLAND/WINDHAM COUNTY, CT — The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for the chance of some strong to severe thunderstorms between 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday. The weather service said the "greatest risk" is near the I-95 corridor.

"A cold front will bring the potential for a few strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening...mainly between 1 and 7 PM," the weather service said in its special weather statement. "The main threat will be localized strong to damaging wind gusts and brief torrential rainfall with the strongest storms. Dangerous cloud to ground lightning will also be possible.

"Those with outdoor plans this afternoon should stay tuned to the latest weather information and be prepared to seek an indoor shelter if threatening weather approaches."
