Local Wal-Mart Gives Grant to

Warming Center

Enfield, CT – October 2, 2020 – With Covid-19 still at large, grants, donations and general fundraising for all non-profits have been more challenging. Enfield Safe Harbor Warming Center applied for a Wal-Mart grant in March 2020, asking for a grant to assist the Center in opening for more nights of our frigid New England winters.

Wal-Mart’s process is to apply to the national grantor site for the corporations, then to follow up with the organizations local Wal-Mart store for approval. ESHWC followed that procedure, and connected with the store manager, Bill Fenlon, of our East Windsor Wal-Mart.

“We like to give back to our own community,” stated Fenlon, “and so it was our pleasure to provide some assistance to the worthy cause of helping our local homeless find overnight shelter,” he concluded.

Members of the Board of Directors and the Center staff would normally have asked for a formal photo op for Wal-Mart to present their generous gift. But, that too, due to the virus, had to be put aside, and a simple thank you letter instead was sent.

“Our corporate donors are so important to our mission,” said ESHWC Executive Director, Monica Wright. “We cannot open the doors without these larger donations, added to the many individual, service organization and small business contributions we receive.”

The Enfield Safe Harbor Warming Center is funded by donations to Enfield People for People a 501(c)(3) charity which has been active in Enfield since 1988. Donations may be made to Enfield People for People, PO Box 165, Enfield, CT 06083.
