Volunteers Still Needed for Source to Sea River Cleanup

For the 17th year, Enfield will participate in the annual event to clean up the Connecticut River and its tributaries.

ENFIELD, CT — Volunteers from Enfield and surrounding communities are still being sought for this weekend's annual Source to Sea cleanup, the 17th time Enfield has participated in the event.

From the Canadian border to Long Island Sound, towns along the Connecticut River work together to clean up the watershed and preserve the river. To date, over 25,000 volunteers have helped remove over 947 tons of trash, according to the Scantic River Watershed Association.

Volunteers will assemble at the Donald Barnes boat launch on South River Street by 9 a.m. Saturday to get their assignments.

"Since the river is nice and low, there's the opportunity to find things we usually wouldn't, but if you have smaller kids, there's opportunities along the Scantic and Freshwater as well," the SRWA said.

Gloves and bags are provided. Volunteers who own boats and wish to participate are strongly encouraged.
