GLASTONBURY, CT — The Glastonbury Board of Education voted to replace the high school's Tomahawk logo at a special board meeting Monday night, according to WTNH. A new logo will be chosen at a later date.

The school was contacted by the National Congress of American Indians, which asked the district to remove the logo. The board passed an initial measure to remove the mascot last month by a 6-2 vote, WTNH reported.

The move comes as schools around the state are reconsidering the legacy of logos associated with Native Americans. In June, Guilford High School officials decided to drop the school's Indian mascot.

In Farmington, the high school's Indians nickname is also the subject of controversy, with a committee being created to address the use of the mascot.
