Glastonbury Is Top CT Community to Own a Home

New report ranks Glastonbury as the best place for homeownership.

Glastonbury has received the distinction of being ranked the best town in Connecticut for homeownership by consumer advocacy website NerdWallet.

The site analyzed 60 Connecticut communities based on affordability (median selected monthly homeowner costs, median monthly household income and costs as percent of income) and population growth (homeownership rate and 2010-12 population growth), as well as median home values. The result is an overall score, ranging from 79 for Glastonbury Center to 30.4 for Greenwich.

According to the study, more than two-third of Glastonbury residents own their homes and spend about a third of their median monthly income of $6,613 for housing expenses.

In their full report, NerdWallet has this to say of Glastonbury:

With a two-year population growth of 6.95% and an unemployment rate of just 1.4%, Glastonbury Center has all the signs of a top home destination. Less than 10 miles from Hartford, and near the Meshomasic State Forest, Glastonbury Center gives residents access to both outdoor beauty and the dining and nightlife options in the state’s capital. While there is already a good retail scene downtown, Glastonbury Center plans to further develop its downtown district with a number of “streescaping” and zoning modifications by 2020.
