Join us for a free chamber concert featuring local music

Celebrating Greater Hartford! is presented by Cuatro Puntos on Saturday, November 3 at 7:00pm in Glastonbury

Cuatro Puntos presents Celebrating Greater Hartford!

Celebrating Greater Hartford! is a concert of music by local composers that celebrates the beautiful diversity of our region. In 2017 the resident musicians of Cuatro Puntos and composer David Macbride jointly received the prestigious Creation of New Work grant awarded by the Edwin C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation. The task: create and perform a monumental chamber music composition for 2 violins, 2 violas, and cello that celebrates the diversity of Greater Hartford. This concert premieres the final product- a joyous and massive new piece for strings that draws motifs and influences from around the Hartford region.

Regrettably, David Macbride passed away unexpectedly just days after delivering the finished composition to Cuatro Puntos. This concert will be in remembrance of his decades of dedication to the arts in Greater Hartford and beyond.

The program will begin by slowing pulling in your focus with a string quartet piece by composer Aleksandra Vrebalov. This begins amorphous and improvisatory, gradually becoming more pronounced and structured to create a driving and memorable rhythm. The musicians will then perform “Coming Home” by David Macbride.

Any proceeds raised from donations made at the door will benefit Music Moves Hartford. Music Moves Hartford is a choir program designed to serve the greater population of Downtown Hartford, and particularly those who have faced or are facing homelessness or housing insecurity. It operates weekly at the Hands on Hartford MANNA soup kitchen at Christ Church Cathedral, as well as the South Park Inn transitional shelter in the South Green neighborhood.
