Learn Practical Parenting Skills at Free Conference

Parents and other caregivers are invited to attend a FREE parenting conference, Celebrate Your Family: Spend a Day Learning and Having Fun!

Parents and other caregivers are invited to attend a free parenting conference, Celebrate Your Family: Spend a Day Learning and Having Fun! on Saturday, May 4, 8:30am – 4:30pm at the Holiday Inn in East Hartford.

Sponsored by KIDSAFE CT and the SBM Charitable Foundation, this is an opportunity to learn practical parenting skills, form connections with other parents, and find out about valuable resources to help on the journey of parenthood.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided and free childcare for children ages 6-12 with fun activities is available on a first come, first serve basis.

Dr. Laura Markham will present Peaceful Parents, Happy Kids, offering parents practical advice on connecting with and helping their children manage emotions. Markham received her PhD in clinical psychology at Columbia University, has written several parenting books, and is founding editor of AhaParenting.com.

Scott Noyes will help parents understand how they speak with their children, the difference between praise and encouragement, discipline approaches, and more. Noyes has written several parenting books and frequently presents his Empowering Programs training to parents, teachers, childcare providers, social workers and others.

Erika Arias, Emmy award-nominated news anchor for FOX61, will emcee the event.

Conference goers can choose to attend two of several workshops:

  • How to Get Kids Cooperating Without Yelling, Threats, Bribes or Punishment (Dr. Laura Markham)
  • Parent/Child Interactions & Self-Esteem (Scott Noyes)
  • Healthy Attachment Styles
  • Unique Challenges of Fatherhood
  • Social Media and Internet Safety
  • Educational Advocacy
