  • 120 panels at the Parks and Recreation Department’s maintenance garage
  • 407 panels at the carport at the school bus yard

The town received grants from the state renewable energy program to install the solar panels, with the only cost to the town the 20-year agreement that they would purchase the energy harnessed by the panels at the cost of 6 cents per kilowatt hour.

The town currently pays about 16 cents per kilowatt hour to Connecticut Light & Power. Town Manager Richard J. Johnson said that the town would save approximately $110,000 a year by using the solar energy system.
