City Of Groton Police Chief Announces Retirement
Police Chief Michael Spellman has announced that he will retire after 34 years in law enforcement.

GROTON, CT — City of Groton Police Chief Michael Spellman has announced his retirement after 34 years in law enforcement, according to a post on his personal Facebook page.
"It has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve this special community in this capacity," he wrote. "Forever indebted to the women and men serving in the Department, sworn and civilian, for their collective efforts during my tenure, I leave with nothing but deep gratitude and fond memories for this agency and the community that we collectively serve."
He said that Groton is a "special community" and that he anticipated an easy transition to a new chief.

"We have hired well and retained our talent. This agency is likely the most diverse of its size in our region and reflects the diversity of the City it serves," he wrote.
