On Wednesday, April 27, members of the City of Groton Police Union and the City of Groton Fire Department were interviewed by CNN regarding the rescue of a woman from a car that landed in the water at Eastern Point Beach.

"The interview is a part of a story CNN will be airing tomorrow, April 29th, beginning in the morning," the City of Groton Police Union said via Facebook.

Mystic resident John Sidlinger, 34, was sharing lunch with his girlfriend at Eastern Point Beach in Groton Thursday, March 31. A woman driving a Honda Civic reportedly attempted to park in a parking spot near the water when her car traveled through a barrier and landed in the water.

According to The Day, the accident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. Sidlinger traversed the shoreline in an attempt to assist the woman as the Civic was filling up with water. The Good Samaritan found a metal pole and was successful in breaking the front windshield of the car but could not pull her through.

Fortunately, police and firefighters arrived on scene and successfully broke a passenger-side window and pulled the woman to safety. She was transported to the hospital but appeared alert.
