Daily Five: A Hurricane Relief Drive and the Fitch High School Marking Period

Five Things To Know, Friday, Nov. 16

1.  Today is Friday, Nov. 16. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies and a high temperature of 53 degrees. The low will fall to 38 degrees tonight.

2.  Due to Hurrciane Sandy, the first quarter marking period at Fitch High School was moved and ended Nov. 13. Report card will be coming home within seven days. Spirit week and the Homecoming Dance have also been postponed until administrators have the chance to meet with the student council, according to the Fitch newsletter.

3.  The Center Groton Fire Department is hosting Operation Making a Difference from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. through Nov. 20. You can stop in at the station on Candlewood Road and donate non-perishable items, a toy for the toy drive, for a free smoke alarm or carbon monoxide detector. 4.  Stonington Feed, a 44 Washington St., in Mystic, is holding a collection from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. today and Saturday for Keansburg, N.J., which was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. The store is collecting water, clothes, non-perishable food, first aid items, blankets and pet food. The trailer leaves Thanksgiving evening to bring the supplies to New Jersey.

5.  Waterford High School will hold it’s 1st Annual Turkey Trot- 5K Road Race
at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The event costs $20 and will be held at Great Neck Elementary School at 165 Great Neck Road in Waterford. Proceeds to benefit the Class of 2013 and the Kelsey Harrington Foundation. The top three runners in each age group will receive awards. Wear your best Thanksgiving-themed costume.
