Daily Five: Grasso Tech Students Win Food Drive Competition
Five Things To Know Friday, Feb. 15
1. Today is Friday, Feb. 15. The National Weather Service predicts partly sunny skies and a high temperature of 45 degrees. The low will fall to 29 degrees tonight and there's a slight chance of snow showers after 3 a.m.
2. Ella T. Grasso Southeastern Technical High School's Interact Club just finished its annual food drive competition, and for the first time, won the interscholastic competition by collecting more food donations than the other three high schools.
Students will load donations this morning so they may be bused to the Town of Groton's Human Services Food Locker and the Gemma Moran United Way Food Locker in New London. Congratulations and great job!

3. The Groton Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. on Feb. 26 in the school administration building to continue discussing the proposed budget. Interim Superintendent John Ramos has proposed a $76.6 million education budget for the coming fiscal year, a 5.54 percent increase over last year's spending plan.
4. Author and creative writing instructor Eileen Albrizio will speak at the Southeast Chapter of the Connecticut Authors and Publishers Association meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Groton Inn & Suites. Albrizio has written three volumes of poetry, several plays, three novels, numerous short stories and essays.

5. Groton Public Library is holding a contest on its website www.grotonpl.org to vote for the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress. If you guess correctly, you'll be entered into a drawing for movie tickets. The library's Oscar Madness ends at 2 p.m. on Feb. 23 with a party and special screening of the film that won Best Picture in 2012. The movie is free and popcorn will be provided.
