Daily Five: Groton Town Clerk Swears In Husband as Superior Court Judge

1.  Today is Friday, March 8.  The National Weather Service predicts 1 to 3 inches of snow, a high temperature of 39 degrees and a north wind of 22 to 28 mph, with gusts up to 41 mph. The low will drop to 29 degrees tonight.

2. Groton Town Clerk Betsy Moukawsher swore in her husband, Thomas Moukawsher, as Superior Court judge Thursday night.  There’s no requirement that it be done in a particular place, so she swore him in at home in the living room while her 12-year-old son, Alex McAusher, held the Bible.

“I do it so often, but then it’s an honor really, to swear in a superior court judge but also my husband. I’m very proud,” she said. Thomas Moukawsher had been interviewed the prior week by the judicial joint committee of the state senate and house. A formal ceremony will be held at a later date, yet to be determined.

3.  West Side Middle School will hold its annual Multicultural Dinner from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on March 20 at the school. Join the festivities if you can! Sixth grade families are bringing side dishes, seventh grade families are bringing entrees, and eighth grade families are making desserts. All children must be accompanied by an adult. 4.  Noank Baptist Church will offer a Community Easter Craft Night from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12. The evening will include crafts for children from preschool to high school, and they can take the crafts home. Snacks and drinks will also be provided. For more information, call (860) 536-7120

5.  The City of Groton will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. on March 30 on the lawn of the Groton Municipal Building. Bring the kids and plenty of baskets!
