Daily Five: School Board To Discuss Superintendent Search April 9

1. Today is Thursday, April 4. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies and a high temperature of 47 degrees. The low will drop to 38 degrees tonight. Â
2. The Groton Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting at 7 p.m. on April 9 in the school administration building to discuss search firms for the next superintendent, the search committee and next steps in the process. The board is seeking a new leader because Former Superintendent Paul Kadri was fired May 5, and Interim Superintendent John Ramos’ contract expires June 30. Â
3. The Board of Assessment Appeals has received 78 applications to appeal either real estate or personal property on the 2012 grand list, according to a report by Town Assessor Mary Gardner. One person also appealed a supplemental motor vehicle assessment from the 2011 grand list. Groton has 16 revaluation cases outstanding from 2011, not including the Groton Long Point Association class action lawsuit. Â
4. The Groton Senior Center is looking for wooden chairs and small tables for an upcoming fundraiser. If you have a wooden chair or table you’d like to get rid of and would donate it to the center, please call Mary Jo Riley at (860) 441-6636. Â
5. The Groton Little League has closed baseball registrations and major league softball registrations for the 2013 season, according to the league’s website. However, the league is still accepting minor league softball and senior division softball registrations. Team rosters are nearly complete, and coaches should be calling players shortly about their practice schedules.
