1. Today is Thursday, Feb. 14. Happy Valentine’s Day! With a blizzard just behind us, it's easy to forget that holiday is officially here. The National Weather Service predicts mostly cloudy skies today, then gradual sun and a high temperature of 42 degrees. Tonight the low will fall to 31 degrees, with patchy fog after midnight.
2. Big Brothers Big Sisters is conducting its annual Bowl for Kids Sake Fundraising campaign. The event will take place on March 2 at Norwich Bowling & Entertainment Center on West Town St. in Norwich, and on March 9 at the Holiday Bowl on 27 Kings Highway in Groton. Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs volunteers with young people, most of whom are considered at-risk and live in single-parent homes.
3. The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut is accepting applications for its 63rd annual Citizen of the Year Award. The award honors someone who has made a special contribution to the civic and business community and will be announced at the annual celebration in May. Nominations must be submitted by Feb. 15. 4. The next public hearing on the master plan for the Groton-New London Airport will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Groton City Hall in the auditorium. 5. Shennecossett Golf Course collected $35,208 in revenue in December, up from $29,381 the previous year. The golf course processed 675 season pass rounds, 802 greens fees and 488 carts rounds that month, according to a report by Golf Course Superintendent Eric Morrison. The course did not sell any season passes. The first tee time at the golf course was 7:42 a.m.
