Five Things To Know Wednesday, April 10

1.  Today is Wednesday, April 10. The National Weather Service predicts mostly cloudy skies, scattered showers after 4 p.m. and a high temperature of 63 degrees. The low will fall to 46 degrees tonight and there’s an 80 percent chance of showers.  

2.  The Submarine Force Library and Museum in Groton and the ship Nautilus (SSN 571), the world's first nuclear powered submarine, reopens today, according to a news release from the submarine base. The museum and submarine will start with winter hours from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Wednesday through Monday. Both will be closed April 15 for a military event. The museum will then switch to summer hours, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday through Monday, on May 1.   

3.  The Town Council will continue deliberations Thursday on the proposed $121.6 million budget for the coming fiscal year, of which $73.66 million is for education. The council will review the education budget with the Groton school board at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Town Hall Annex.  

4.  Groton has hired Kristin Clarke as its new economic development specialist. She started April 1 and previously served as director of development and planning for the City of New London, according to a report by the town manager.  

5.  Art on Groton Bank is holding its 7th annual outdoor art show on July 20 the grounds of the Bill Memorial Library and is seeking artists for the event.  The event offers artists a 10’ x 10’ space to present their works for a $45 fee.  For more information, go to www.artongrotonbank.com or contact Chris Rose at the Gallery at Lighthouse at 860-445-7626, ext. 108.
