Daily Five: The Town Manager, The Mystic Streetscape And A Demolition
Five Things To Know, Tuesday, Aug. 7.

1. Today is Tuesday, Aug. 7. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies and a high temperature of 80 degrees. The low will drop to 66 degrees tonight.
2. The Groton Town Council will meet as a Committee of the Whole at 6:30 p.m. today in the Town Hall Annex to evaluate the town manager. The evaluation is expected to take place in executive session. The council will then hold its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. and discuss topics including the next phase of the Mystic Streetscape project.
3. Groton will demolish the dilapidated house at the corner of Packer and Cow Hill roads starting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday. The old Mason's Hall at Burnett's Corners was ., a local historic preservation group. Groton took the group to court in November, 2011, and won a court judgment to raze the building after arguing it was in “imminent danger of failure or collapse".

Packer Road from Cow Hill Road to Route 184 will be closed to through traffic; demolition is scheduled for Aug. 9 and grading for Aug. 10.
4. A group of paddlers around various points between Old Saybrook and Stonington, and this week will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Esker Point Beach in Groton. The gathering is free, and all are welcome.

5. The Wizard of Paws, a business that provides animal rehabilitation and wellness services, will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at 2 Avery Street in Mystic.
