Elderly Groton Man Seriously Injured In Dog Attack
Man's small dog also taken to animal hospital with critical injuries

A man in his 70s was serious injured Tuesday morning after a dog attack and required hospital treatment, Groton Police said.
The man, who was not identified, suffered “serious physical injuries to his upper extremities” and was taken to Lawrence & Memorial after the attack, police said. The man’s small dog was also critically injured and was taken to Companion Animal Hospital on Poquonnock Road, police said.
The attack happened at about 8:50 a.m., at Calvin Burrow’s Ball Field on South Road, the news release said.

The dog involved in the attack was taken into custody by officers and the Animal Control Officer, and is being held at the Groton Animal Control facility, the release said. The breed and age of the dog were not identified.
Both the victim and the dog owners live in the South Road area, police said.

Town police and the animal control officer are investigating, the release said.
Emergency personnel from the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department and Groton Ambulance also responded to the scene.
