Five Things To Know Today
The Groton Parent Council, Noank Zoning Change and Little League

1. Today is Tuesday, Feb. 15. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, with a high near 27 degrees and blustery winds. Tonight will be clear and cold, with a low around 13 degrees.
2. The Groton Parent Council meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. today at Catherine Kolnaski Magnet School, and Superintendent Paul Kadri will discuss the district's proposed $133 million school construction plan. The plan is expected to go before voters during a referendum in May.
3. A public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Noank Fire District building on Ward Avenue about a zoning change that could affect the use of the former Noank Elementary. The proposal would permit parks, playgrounds and other municipally-owned recreational facilities and buildings within a low density district by “special exception” only, rather than through site plan approval as they are now. 4. The town's getting ready for the Little League baseball season. It's application has been approved to replace the existing wood frame scorer's booth at Burrows Little League Field on South Road, and to build a new one in the same place. Little League registration will be held from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Feb 22 in the Groton Library; from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 at West Side Middle School, and from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Feb. 26 in both locations.
5. Northeast Cycle Works, a business at 661 Gold Star Highway, has applied to the planning and zoning commissions to build a 24,000 square-foot addition to expand its office, retail and warehousing space. The company filed the site plan application and special permit on Feb. 7.
