Free Training on How To Give Aid Until Help Arrives
City of Groton Firefighters and Ledge Light Health District to offer free training on how to give aid until professional help arrives.

If you saw an injured person, would you know how to help them until professional help arrives? Did you know that you may be able to save a life by taking basic actions that do not require any special equipment? Until Help Arrives is comprehensive, free-of-charge training program that broadly covers what you should do until help arrives.
Ledge Light Health District and the City of Groton are co-sponsoring the Until Help Arrives program to provide two training opportunities on May 31, 2018 and June 13, 2018 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Groton Municipal Building (295 Meridian Street, Groton). The course will teach you simple skills that to help keep a person with life-threatening injuries alive until professional help arrives. Topics include the five simple action steps: calling 9-1-1, protecting the injured from further harm, stopping any bleeding, positioning the injured so they can breathe, and providing comfort. This course was developed by, and is based on research conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), and the Department of Defense Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS). This training is meant to help individuals minimize injury or death in emergency situations. It is does not fulfill medical certification requirements associated with formal medical courses.
