​Groton Celebrates July 4 with 38th Annual Parade

The theme for this year's parade is "American the Beautiful."

From Groton Rec: Celebrate America with the 38th annual Groton 4th of July Parade on Tuesday, July 4th at 10:00 a.m. The parade route starts at Poquonnock Plains Park and heads north on U.S. Route 1 towards the Groton Shopping Plaza. The theme for this year’s parade is “American the Beautiful.”

Leading the parade as Grand Marshal is Mark Oefinger, Groton’s retiring Town Manager who has worked for the Town of Groton for over 30 years. Other parade participants include military units from the Subase, various fire departments, local businesses, youth sports organizations, fife and drum corps and more.

For those participating, the line-up locations have changed due to the construction beginning at Grasso Technical High School. Vehicles will line up at Claude Chester School and Sutton Park. Spectators can view the parade from the Poquonnock Bridge neighborhood, Town Hall, or other locations in downtown Groton. Residents should expect the road to be shut down from 10 a.m. to about 11:30 a.m. to traffic going in both directions.
