Groton Charter Vote 2018-Groton residents face a daunting choice on the Charter Change. YES or NO? The RTM provides a balance of power in Groton's budgets. Population and minority party representation are two good things. The RTM keeps the subdivisions and special interest groups in check. Groton’s subdivisions necessitate Groton keep an RTM. A more unified Groton would be a benefit long term but a YES vote will not provide that. Consolidated fire districts would. The process of the new charter is costly with many referendums. The RTM’s sub-committees analyze the budget and bring it to the entire RTM for final vote. The 'power of initiative' should be used more. I used it to have the town install a traffic light at I-95 and Rt 117 several years ago helping to prevent future fatalities there. The RTM should remain in tact. Vote NO on charter revision question. Andrew Parrella Former City of Groton Councilor and Representative Town Meeting Member
