Groton Girl Scout Wins Gold Award

She has been awarded the Gold Award, the highest honor a girl scout can win.

Two local girl scouts were recent recipients of the Gold Award, the highest award Girl Scouts can be given, for their substantial work in the community, The Day reported.

Kimberly Thomson of Groton was recognized for her close work with intellectually disabled teens and adults to create a community room mural that showcased individual artistic talents, according to The Day. Emily Coderre of Waterford was also a recipient for her peanut butter and jelly drive for the Gemma E. Moran Food Center in New London.

Coderre’s drive notably collected enough materials to make more than 14,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, as reported by The Day. The pair’s achievement is only reached by 6 percent of Girl Scouts.
