Groton Man Wanted In Domestic Violence Assault

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a man accused of assaulting a victim with a beer bottle.

GROTON, CT — Police are searching for a man in connection with a domestic violence incident. Douglas Demelo is accused of assaulting a victim with a beer bottle, causing significant injuries to the victim's head and lacerations to the victim's chest.

Police received a call 1 a.m. Monday from New London police regarding a victim who had been brought to the emergency room for non-life-threatening injuries. Police interviewed the victim, then went to a Groton home to investigate.

When police arrived at the home, Demelo had fled the scene. He is wanted on charges of second-degree assault, three counts of risk of injury to a child, three counts of violation of a protective order, and second-degree breach of peace.

Police described him as a 34-year-old man, 5'8" to 5'10" tall, 200-210 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
