GROTON, CT — The death of George Floyd in Minneapolis "defies human decency." Those are the words of Groton Chief Louis Fusaro, who took to Facebook Monday to add his condemnation to a killing that's already sparked protests in Connecticut and across the country.

Floyd, who was unarmed and under arrest on suspicion of passing counterfeit money, was filmed May 25 as Minneapolis officers Derek Chauvin placed a knee on his neck for nine minutes while ignoring his pleas for air. Floyd had no pulse when he was placed in ambulance on May 25.

"Like you, we were sickened by this reckless and criminal act," Fusaro wrote in the Facebook post.

Fusaro did not comment directly on the pending murder charges against Chauvin, or the fate of the other three Minneapolis officers who witnessed Chauvin's actions, but did not intervene. (All four officers involved in Floyd's death have been fired.)

"We know that there is no place in our profession for what happened in Minneapolis," the post continued. "It is our duty to not remain silent when we see abuse or injustice and we believe as law enforcement officers that there is a sacred trust that society has placed in us. If there is a bad actor among our ranks, we have a duty to cut out that disease and eradicate it from our profession."
