Groton Police Talk Man Off Gold Star Bridge

A man climbed over the fence of Gold Star Bridge and was hanging off Wednesday night, but emergency responders were able to talk him down.

GROTON, CT— A man climbed over the fence of Gold Star Bridge and was hanging off Wednesday night, but emergency crews were able to talk him down, according to police. A call came in at 8:42 p.m. that a man had jumped over the Gold Star Bridge fence and into the water.

Police made an initial check of the area and could not find the man. However, the fire department's marine unit found the man, who was over the fence and hanging off the bridge toward the Sub Base.

Groton police officers made contact with man. State police arrived and after speaking to the man for several minutes, he agreed to climb back over the fence with the help of police.

He was treated and transported to L&M Hospital for evaluation.

Agencies responding to the incident included United States Coast Guard, New London Fire Department, Mystic Fire Department, Groton City Fire Department, Groton City Police Department, Groton Long Point Fire Department, L+M Paramedics and Town of Groton Police Department.
