Groton School Board To Reconsider Transportation Cut
Cut would affect about 140 Groton students who attend magnet schools in neighboring communities.

The Groton Board of Education is expected to reconsider a decision to cut interdistrict transportation for about 140 magnet school students.
The board earlier approved a budget that cut transportation for Groton students who attend magnet schools. The decision was made to save $100,000 and would affect students at programs including the Dual Language & Arts Magnet Middle School in Waterford and the Regional Multicultural Magnet School, Winthrop Elementary School and Science and Technology Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut in New London.
But State Department of Education officials confirmed this is the case.

Now the board may reconsider its choice. If the town agrees to return the reimbursed money to the school district, the transportation would not cost Groton Public Schools anything.
Board of Education Chairwoman Kirsten Hoyt said she would discuss the issue with her colleagues at the board’s next regular meeting April 8, then return to the Town Council, possibly on April 11.
