Groton To Distribute Meals Ready to Eat and Water At Poquonnock Plains Park
Emergency Management Ordered 6,000 Meals. They will be available from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The Groton Department of Emergency Management will distribute ready-to-eat meals and water at Poquonnock Plains Park for people who have no way to prepare their own foods, said Joseph Sastre, director of emergency management.
The town ordered 6,000 meals, called MREs, which have been delivered to the park and will be distributed from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.
“Until the supply flow starts, we’re going to give people one days worth of food per person,” or two meals, he said. For example, a couple with two children would receive eight meals.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is supplying the meals and the town is distributing them. No decision has been made yet as to how long they will be available.
“It depends on the need,” Sastre said.
