Mike’s Famous Harley-Davidson Leaving Groton for New London

The motorcycle dealership has found a larger building in New London.

A “For Sale” sign has been posted in front of the  Mike’s Famous Harley Davidson since this summer at least and has finally found a place in New London to call their new home.

According to a report in The Day, the motorcycle dealership closed on the old Coca Cola bottling building last month on 951 Bank Street in New London for $550,000.

Owner Mike Schwartz, who was drawn to the “grittiness of the warehouse,” said he renovating the 55,000 square foot building, which will be the business headquarters in December. Schwartz said he hopes to use found objects on site and reclaim materials “to create an interesting ambiance” and while the building will be renovated, original details like the tongue-and-groove ceilings, warehouse-style windows and steel trusses will remain.

The building has enough room to show 200 motorcycles and some all-terrain vehicles and watercraft. There will also be a drive-in service and parts operation and storage. 

The business would also be increasing its workforce to 40 people.
