Mystic Native Named One of Connecticut's 40 Under 40
The 25-year-old Major League Baseball player has a 95-mile-per-hour fastball.
Matt Harvey’s family has deep roots in the Mystic community. His family has lived in the area for three generations. He has saltwater in his veins, it’s true, but a love of baseball courses through him, too. He went to baseball games as a child and pictured what it would like to be one of the players, the N.Y. Daily News reported.
From middle school on, scouts were watching Harvey, Men’s Journal wrote in an article detailing Harvey’s journey to the New York Mets.
Every year, Connecticut Magazine releases its Top 40 Under 40 list, featuring philanthropists, artists, athletes, educators and entrepreneurs. Each person is nominated by friends, family, colleagues, fans and editors of the magazine.

Harvey, 25, is one of the Connecticut-grown people to receive the designation. He made the list because he “lit up the major league with his 95-mile-per-hour fastball and ended up starting the All-Star Game. Along the way he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and posed wearing nothing but a baseball glove for ESPN, The Magazine’s body issue,” Connecticut Magazine wrote.
