Curt Pierson, 79, who rose from a cub reporter in the Groton bureau to managing editor during a 20-year tenure with The Day in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, died April 2, in Warren, Vt.
Mary Regalbuto, 104, of Niantic, who was born in Groton, died April 7 at Crescent Point.
Julian Edward Schroeder, 87, of Avon, who enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1944, was inducted in Groton and served in the Pacific as a submariner, died April 6 at River Ridge, after a year-long battle with brain cancer.
Lucy Irene (Duerr) Smithson, 79, of Mystic, beloved wife of 48 years to Billy "Smitty" Smithson, died April 4, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
