Obituary: Robert Michael McCarthy (Robbie), 34

Robert Michael McCarthy (Robbie) of Branford, CT, age 34, passed away in New Haven after a life-long battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystophy on July 31, 2018 with his family at his side. He graduated from Branford High School in 2003.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church Youth Group in Branford and was an Honorary member of the Branford Fire Dept. Robbie was an Ambassador for the Groton H.O.G. chapter and participated in the MDA Run to the Sun, leading the motorcade in a side-car for many years.

He is survived by his parents Robert J and Michelle McCarthy of Branford; his brother's Ryan and Michael and sister Heather of Branford; his brother Christopher Groeper (Becka) and nephew Christian of SC; grandparents John Bruce and Joan McCarthy Shattuck of NC; aunt Nancy Richmond (Brad) of Guilford; uncle Brian McCarthy (Kelly) of Stratford; uncle Charles Kratt of Willimantic.

Robbie leaves behind many cousins, his best friend Michael Casey of Clinton and his beloved dogs, Maggie, Baby, Logan and Teddy. Robbie is predeceased by his grandparents Michael & Mabel Ereshena of Middletown; his Aunt Evi Kratt of Willimantic, his grandfather Robert J McCarthy of Fla.; his uncle Army Sgt. Michael McCarthy of TX.

The family would like at this time to thank the Branford Fire Dept./EMS and the staff of AMR as well as the staff of both Yale New Haven Hospitals; the Emergency departments, the Medical I.C.U.'S and the Respiratory dept.'s and Dr Regina Palazo.
