Portion Of Road Collapses Near Navy Housing In Groton: Report

Police ask drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area.

GROTON, CT – A portion of a road near Navy housing in Groton collapsed Tuesday afternoon, forcing police to close part of Hornbeam Road extending from Hickory Drive, according to media reports. Police said no injuries were reported and no vehicles were affected as a result of the incident.

According to NBC Connecticut, Navy public works officials are inspecting the area and will work to repair the roadway. It is currently unclear how long the road will be closed.

Drivers and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area at this time and may want to seek alternate routes, Fox 61 reported.
