State Rep. John Scott Nominated For Re-Election

Mystic's John F. Scott was unanimously nominated at a recent Republican convention. His district covers parts of Groton and Ledyard.

At the 40th District Republican convention held on May 16, 2016, State Representative John F. Scott of Mystic was unanimously nominated to run for re-election.

Representative Scott is completing his first term as a member of the Connecticut General Assembly and currently serves on the Banking, Insurance, Real Estate, and Energy and Technology committees. His district covers the northern half of Groton and voting district three in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard.

“I’m looking forward to continuing my work in Hartford on subjects that matter to Groton and Ledyard including controlling our state budget crisis, economic development, job growth, improvement of our town’s schools, and stopping our heroin epidemic,” Rep. Scott said. “I am very proud of what I have accomplished so far, as I have been instrumental in job creation through protections given to our oystermen, and I was able to reduce statewide budget cuts to Groton and Ledyard so that they received the smallest cuts by percentage of any other town in the region.”

'Connecticut is at a Crossroads'

“The State of Connecticut is at a crossroads,” Rep. Scott said. “Thirty years of one party rule in the Legislature combined with the failed leadership of Governor Malloy, has created a financial mess for the State where businesses and people are leaving. I feel strongly that structural changes need to be made in Hartford that will turn around our tax structure which will entice both businesses and people to stay and will hold our towns harmless from further property tax increasing cuts.”

In addition to being a State Representative, Rep. Scott owns the Bailey Agencies Insurance in Groton and has previously served on both the Groton Town Council and RTM. He is also a member and past president of the Groton Rotary Club. In his spare time he enjoys participating in mud runs and sprint distance triathlons. He shares his home is in Mystic with his husband Rafael and two miniature schnauzers.
