Students Will Make Up Snow Days in February, May

Groton Will Not Move Graduation Date

Groton Superintendent Paul Kadri said today the district will remove vacation days in February and May rather than push graduation back a week to make up for lost snow days.

Students will attend class on Tuesday, Feb. 22, and Friday, May 27, Kadri said.

He had considered moving graduation from June 17 to June 24, but determined this was not the best option, he said.

“We were getting feedback that it was going to be a significant hardship for graduating families,” Kadri said. He added that an alcohol-free graduation party is already planned for the date.

“There is a safe graduation party that takes place, and they would have had a lot of trouble moving the event. “

Groton has taken six snow days, and planned to need four. However, the district has 181 days built into the school calendar, more than the state’s required 180 days. If Groton takes an additional snow day, it could reduce the school calendar for students by one day and, leave graduation where it is, Kadri said.

If additional snow days are needed, Groton may have to look to April vacation, he said.
