Steven Spellman was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
STONINGTON, CT — A Superior Court judge in Danielson was arrested Wednesday and accused of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, The Day reported. Former state Sen. Steven Spellman, 69, of 32 Cedar Lane in Noank, was seen leaving McQuade's Marketplace on Clara Drive in Stonington at 6:12 p.m. and appeared to be intoxicated, police said.
A person called police and said Spellman threw a bottle in a garbage can, stumbled over a curb and staggered to a car, police said.
Police located Spellman shortly after and brought him into custody. Spellman said he was "embarrassed and deeply sorry for this incident," according to The Day.
