Town Council To Vote on New Rates For Shennecossett Golf Course

The Town Council is expected to vote Tuesday on rates for the Shennecossett Golf Course, including reduced fees to draw in more players during off-peak hours. 

In a memo to the town manager and town council, Parks and Recreation Director Mark Berry said the golf course lost $9,000 in revenue after it raised the season pass rates by 3 percent in 2012.

He said given this, he wants no increase in season pass rates this year. He has also suggested cutting the rates for off-peak hours to increase the competitiveness of the course.

“The strategy is to focus on increasing round counts by offering discounts to boost vacant time slots and achieve maximum capacity in the off season, particularly in the afternoon hours,” his memo said.

The Golf Advisory Board and Parks and Recreation Commission have each reviewed and approved the recommendations. They are listed below:

• Keep the Season Pass rate the same.

• Reduce the weekend and weekday twilight rates by $3, or 14 percent.

• Reduce 9-hole weekend rates after noon by $7, or 29 percent

•  Reduce 9-hole weekday rates after noon by $3, or 14 percent.

•  Keep golf cart rates the same.
