Wee Fairies Visit, Deaf Social Club, Cuban Art Exhibit

Five things to know on Thursday, September 26.

  1. Today will be another gorgeous Fall day! The National Weather Service says it’ll be mostly sunny, with a high near 68 and tonight may be partly cloudy, with a low around 50.
  2. Antonio Nuñez: Latin Network for the Visual Arts 2013 Artist of the Year. Printing, assemblage and collage by Cuban artists will be on display at the Alexey von Schlippe Gallery of Arts at the Branford House Mansion through Oct. 27. Call 860-405-9052 or check www.lnva.us for hours.
  3. The Deaf Social Club meets today at the Groton Senior Center, 102 Newtown Road. The group is for adults 55 and older and meets on the fourth Thursday of month. Call 860-441-6785 for more info.
  4. Join Tammi Flynn of the Florence Griswold Museum at the Bill Memorial Library at 4 p.m. today as she brings the fanciful world of fairies to the Library. Young readers listen to the story, Fairy Houses by Tracy Kane, before making their own fairy (or two) out of beads, silk flowers, gems and, other "magical" materials. Younger children will need an adult to help them with their project. For more information or to register please call the library at 860-445-0392.
  5. It’s not too late to get your tickets for the Forks and Corks event at Jonathan Edwards Winery, which they are calling a “farmers market meets wine soiree.” There will be local food represented while the winery harvests and presses this year’s chardonnay crop. The event begins at 6:30 p.m., $20/advance or $25/door and includes glass of your favorite wine, delicious small bites and a chance to watch the best of the Harvest Season!
