Youth Art Classes at the COMO!
Intro to Drawing, Cartoon+, Digital Illustration & Animation, Youth Pottery, & Teen Pottery!
The COMO feels creativity is essential to the growth and development of all people, especially for children and teens. This shared belief bounds us to our commitment to the success of this undertaking. Through art, we help build and foster a sense of self, within our students.
Intro to Drawing: Ages 9-14, Tuesdays, September 15- November 3, 4:30pm- 6:00pm
This course is designed to provide beginner drawers with a better understanding of the different techniques used in this art form – from gesture drawing to light and shadow drawing and more! The teacher, Carrie Powers, holds a BFA from UC Berkeley and a BA in Advertising Design from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA and is excited to pass along her expertise to her students come fall.
Youth Pottery: Ages 5-12
Make a box, make a ball, make it short, or make it tall! Animals, flowers, faces, and more. With hands in clay, students can create anything they imagine!

Teen Pottery: Ages 10-17, Wednesdays, September 16 - November 4, 4:30pm- 5:30pm
This class will provide an introduction and in-depth look at ceramic hand-building as an art form. The first few classes will emphasize technique, but later classes will be open for exploration. Sculpture, mold-making and more!
Cartoon+: Ages 8-11, Fridays, September 11- October 30, 4:45pm- 6:15pm
Learn the nuts and bolts of cartoon creations, character design, storytelling, page composition, penciling, inking, lettering, and and use of screentone. Students will tackle single panel gags and multi paneled “newspaper” style strips! The “+” in our title stands for animation. Students will take their illustrations into our animation software to bring their creations to life.
Digital Illustration and Animation: Ages 12-15, Fridays, September 11- October 30, 3:15pm-4:45pm
In this hands-on introductory class, students learn creative illustration techniques for producing digital designs and animation elements. Students will learn how an illustrator approaches challenges like proportion, perspective, lighting, storytelling, and expression as well as capturing motion in action to develop breathtaking animations.
