Firm to Identify Affordable Housing Sites in Guilford to Meet State Requirement
The survey to identify sites will take six months to complete.

The Guilford Board of Selectmen has approved the hiring of a local engineering firm to identify sites where affordable housing units could be developed, the New Haven Register reports.
According to the paper, the town is nowhere near meeting the state affordable housing goals that mandate that a municipality must have 10 percent of its housing stock deeded affordable. Even though a unit may fall within affordable guidelines, it must be recorded on the property deed to meet the requirement.
Guilford-based Waldo and Associates, LLC will conduct the survey, which will take six months to complete and will cost $19,000.

Ideal locations will be between three and 25 acres, the paper reports. Other considerations for the sites will include the ability to dispose wastewater and proximity to public transportation.
The plan will go before the Board of Selectmen and the Planning and Zoning Commission once sites are identified.
