Five things to get you going on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013.

Good morning! Today is Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013. August 1! How'd that happen? Here are five things we found for you.
1. The forecast from the National Weather Service
- A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Light south wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Thursday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 3am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 65. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
- The Ledyard Police Department has an emergency alert notification system that can send emergency information right to your smartphone. You can sign up here.
- The state also has an emergency notification system. You can sign up for that here.
